The St Andrew’s Society Melbourne is proud to announce a significant milestone in our history: the official unveiling of our very own bespoke tartan.
Designed in partnership with ScotlandShop and officially registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans, the St Andrew’s Society Melbourne Tartan now takes its place among Scotland’s recognised tartans—representing not only our Society, but the enduring connection between Scotland and Australia.
This custom design is more than a pattern. It is a symbol of identity, heritage, and community—reflecting our mission to foster meaningful relationships among Scottish professionals and business leaders in Melbourne, while building a legacy for future generations.
– Created by ScotlandShop in 2024, each colour woven into the tartan was carefully selected to tell the story of our Society and the places that shape us.
– Blue represents the Saltire, Scotland’s national flag and a proud symbol of Scottish identity recognised around the world.
– Black acknowledges the colours of the Australian Aboriginal Flag, recognising Australia’s rich cultural heritage and history.
– Light Purple reflects the iconic Scottish heather, long associated with the hills and landscapes of Scotland.
– Light Green is inspired by eucalyptus, a distinctive feature of the Australian landscape and a nod to the country many of our members now call home.
– Navy represents Melbourne and Victoria, bringing together the city and state at the heart of our Society.
– Together, these colours create a tartan that honours Scottish roots while celebrating the life, community, and opportunities found here in Australia.
The creation of our own Society tartan marks a fantastic milestone in the ongoing story of the St Andrew’s Society Melbourne.
It is both a celebration of Scottish tradition and an acknowledgement of the strong community we continue to build here in Victoria. More than a design, this tartan is a lasting symbol of belonging—something members can wear with pride across generations.
And this is just the beginning.
In the coming months, members can expect to see our tartan woven into more aspects of Society life, from bespoke Society pins and accessories to subtle nods across our events and member experiences. We are excited by the opportunities this creates to bring a little more personality, pride, and tradition into our gatherings.
We have no doubt the Society tartan will inspire some fun additions to event styling and member dress codes, creating even more opportunities for members to showcase their connection to the Society in a uniquely Melbourne-meets-Scotland way.
Members will soon be able to purchase a range of exclusive St Andrew’s Society Melbourne tartan products via our website, including: Scarves, Golf caps, Snoods, Ribbon, Accessories and more.
