Another Grand Evening at Burns in July 2024

In January 1801, nine of Robert Burns’s closest friends gathered to celebrate the fifth anniversary of his passing with the very first Burns Supper. With fine whisky and great company, it was a memorable night—a tradition that continues to be cherished by Scots around the world. Fast forward to Friday, 26th July 2024, and our Society was delighted to once again honor the Bard’s legacy at our own ‘Burns in July’ Supper. Robert Burns’ death anniversary falls on July 21st, so our annual Burns Night event serves as a meaningful tribute to his memory.

Over 100 guests, including Scottish members and special attendees, gathered for an evening rich in Burns Night traditions. The night featured a magical Address to the Haggis, captivating Burns recitals by Ian Gardiner and committee member Colin McCaul, Toasts to the Lassies and a Reply by our members Martin Ross and Ishbel Morrison.

Our Burns in July Supper is more than a celebration; it’s a crucial occasion for our members to connect with fellow Scots in Melbourne and establish meaningful business relationships. The evening offered a distinctive setting for networking within our dynamic community, strengthening both personal and professional ties.

A huge thank you to Ray Capaldi and Jodi Crocker and the team for delivering outstanding cuisine and continued support. Our brilliant charismatic MC Stephen Brown kept the energy high and the laughs flowing, even amidst the endless flow of whisky!

The charity auction in support My Name’5 Doddie Foundation added an extra touch of goodwill to the evening. We appreciate our generous guests for their bids which helped us raise significant funds for a worthy cause. The auction featured a range of fantastic prizes, from golf days and sailing experiences to Scottish adventures and award-winning beverages.
